Somerset and Bristol Area Clubs Competition
Saturday 21st January 2012
JKAE Clubs from Somerset and Bristol, came together to compete at the inaugural inter-club competition, which was held on Saturday 21 January 2012 at Norton Hill School Sports Centre, Midsomer Norton.
The event was organised and hosted by Norton Radstock JKA and was attended by clubs from Norton Radstock, Mendip, Glastonbury, Weston Super Mare, Taunton and Bristol. Over forty entered the ten categories for both children and adults in kata and kumite (sanbon kumite, ippon kumite and ju ippon kumite), which was limited to kyu grades only.
For many of the competitors this was their first taste of competition, but everyone soon settled down and responded with plenty of spirit and a high standard of karate, which was fully appreciated by the clubs’ instructors and the audience. Medals and certificates were presented to all those that came first, second and third.
The competition ran very smoothly, thanks to the efforts of the clubs’ instructors and a small team of volunteers, who helped set up the competition and spectators areas, acted as referees, judges and recorders and generally managed the whole day’s event.
A huge vote of thanks goes out to all the clubs that participated to make it such a successful day; the competitors, judges, helpers and spectators.
Successful Norton Radstock Members were;
Russell Tippett: First Place, 9th to 4th kyu Senior Kata, Second Place, 9th to 4th kyu Senior Kumite
Brandon Tall: Third Place, 3rd to 1st kyu Junior Kata
James Brown: Third Place, 3rd to 1st kyu Junior Kumite
Alan Brown: Third Place, 3rd to 1st kyu Senior Kumite
