Congratulations to Brandon Woolway of Norton Radstock JKA Karate Club who was awarded his first dan black belt at the JKA England grading held at the K2 Crawley on Sunday 05 December 2022. The grading was conducted by Sensei Ohta 7th dan, Chief Instructor of the JKA England and followed the three day international course attended by Sensei Hirayama 7th dan, from JKA headquarters Tokyo.
Brandon has been a member of the club for over 10 years and has been training especially hard in the months leading up to his grading. His success was a fitting reward for his dedication and effort.

Grading Success for Norton Radstock JKA Karate Club
Congratulations go to Alan Brown of Norton Radstock JKA Karate Club who was awarded his first dan black belt at the JKA England grading held at the University of Bath on Saturday 30 November 2013. The grading was conducted by Sensei Ohta 7th dan, Chief Instructor of the JKA England and followed a hard morning's training session attended by over 200 black and brown belts.
Alan has been a member of the club for over five years and has been training especially hard in the months leading up to his grading. His success was a fitting reward for his dedication and effort. He was supported on the day by the Club’s instructors and fellow members.
Grading Glastonbury 11 December 2011
The quarterly kyu grading held at St Dunstan’s Community School Glastonbury on 11 December was conducted by Sensei Yoshinobu Ohta 7th Dan JKA, Chief Instructor of the Japan Karate Association England.
The day started with training for brown and black belts, followed by beginners to purple belts and covered many of the techniques required for the grading syllabus. Sensei Ohta’s training concentrated on the correct use of the hips and body movement.

Despite a reduced number due to the holidays, there was another good turn-out by the students and instructors from Norton Radstock, Glastonbury, Taunton and Mendip.
Again the visiting grading examiner was Sensei Roy Tomlin, 5th Dan JKA who put the brown and black belts through their paces with a dynamic training session focussing on jiyu-ippon kumite.
Sensei Roy concentrated on correct movement, use of the hip and focussing power. He then took the lower grades and concentrated on the techniques they would have to do for their grading.
All the Norton Radstock Students that graded were successful, so congratulations and well done to;

Black Belt Grading. Walton-on-Thames

Congratulations go to Steve Harris who was awarded his Nidan at the JKA England grading held at Walton-on-Thames on Saturday 6 December. Steve took his grading under the watchful eye of Sensei Ohta 6th dan JKA, Chief Instructor of the JKA England and Sensei Bura 7th dan Chief Instructor JKA Denmark, after a hard morning's training session attended by over 300 black and brown belts. He was one of only three passes at the grade and it is a fitting reward for Steve, who has put in many years of dedicated training.
